On Saturday, October 26 at about 4:30 pm, a (dead) tree fell into the BPA transmission line causing an outage to Baker Creek and Walnut City substations that affected approximately 7,000 customers. MW&L crews responded to the reported outage, determined the cause and had power restored to most customers within 90 minutes and all customers were restored by 6:09 pm.
MW&L has an extensive tree trimming program that was developed to maximize public safety, electric reliability and tree health. MW&L is in the process of purchasing the section of transmission line affected this weekend from BPA. One of the reasons for purchasing this transmission line is to improve reliability and once this purchase is complete, tree trimming in areas needed will be a priority to further reduce the risk of future outages.
